Now just why would you want to choose a unique baby name?
Well... "Unique names are "in" now, aren't they?"
Distinctive baby names are hot right now.
Everybody seems to be trying to find that one, unique, descriptive and totally never-before-thought-of name for their baby.
Mmmm - that may be a bit of an exaggeration!
But many parents do want to find a name that will bring with it a unique identity - a touch of the exotic, a refreshing change, perhaps, from the humdrum of names surrounding them.
Your child's unique name will give them an instant identity
"Oh - I know exactly who you mean!"
No hassles, then, deciding which Emily people are talking about; if your child is the only one in the school, town or area with that name, your child will benefit from instant recognition.
New babies with a fresh-sounding name are somehow just a little bit more interesting. Everyone will remember the name - for years to come.
And if your baby's name is easy to spell and pronounce, you'll be giving your child an edge later on in life when he or she starts college or work - and if it's unique enough - not always guaranteed! - the name will have remained unique.
Unique means distinctive
"Hmmmm... Pauline... or Paris?
Your child may become a famous writer, internet entrepreneur or lawyer. Or at least, well known and respected in their chosen field.
In that respect, a unique baby name may serve them well - it sometimes pays, literally, to be different, if it means your child has that little extra advantage: a memorable first name.
You can avoid "name stereotyping."
"Ahhh, the two Emilys..."
Choosing a name that is unique to your baby also means that your child will not have to "compete" with another child of the same name; if you've ever had a close relative or someone in your class with the same name as you - you may have experienced this strange phenomenon!
For some reason, sharing the same first name with someone else means that you are compared to them, or even very much associated with them - and it can be extremely annoying!
Name stereotyping can affect all of us at any time - whether we are applying for a job, opening a bank account or meeting new neighbours: your name will give someone an enormous amount of information about you - most of which will be completely wrong!
A unique baby name tends to avoid this kind of behaviour; your child will be "first in the queue" with a name that carries no baggage from the past - yet!
