Top ten boys' names in the the UK 2007

Here we have three sets of statistics for us to consider:

- England and Wales together

- Scotland

- and Northern Ireland!

And the kingly trio for 2007 are Jack... Lewis... and - Jack!

As you can see, Jack's still a massively popular name in the UK.

England and Wales

The top ten boys' names in England and Wales show a little shuffling about within the rankings, but there's nothing to get overly excited about here!

Jack and Thomas keep their top spots, while Oliver and Joshua swap places. James and William move down a little, while Daniel and Charlie improve their positions. Samuel goes out of the top ten and it's hello to Alfie!

The top 50 names see Jayden, Isaac and Finlay entering the fray. Names on the rise in the UK include Oscar, Mohammed and Muhammad.

So let's start off with...

The top ten boys' names in the UK - England and Wales.

RankName2003Trend
1 Jack 1 Thirteen years at number one, and Jack's still King of the rankings. He still looks good to hold onto this title next year - unless Oliver, Charlie or Alfie decide to upset the applecart!
2 Thomas 3 Thomas stays put this year, and I wonder if he has the stamina to stay within the top five next time round.
3 Oliver 6 Oliver has risen quietly but steadily up by one or two places since 2004 - but he'll have to really make an effort next year if he wants that top title - or even stay where he is.
4 Joshua 2 This young man is happy to float around in the top ten - moving down a little over the past few years, but at fourth place - who's complaining?
5 Harry 11 I thought Harry might grab a spot in the top three this time round - but he's perfectly happy where he is!
6 Charlie 25 A good jump up for Charlie, from tenth spot. He could be racing for a top ranking soon.
7 Daniel 5 Daniel looked to be heading out of the top ten - but has improved his ranking by two places.
8 William 9 William's in familiar territory - he ranked in this position in 2004 and 2005.
9 James 4 Down from 6th place last time, James might be lucky to hold onto his top ten ranking.
10 Alfie 18 Alfie's had a somewhat chequered history since 2003. 2004 saw him unexpectedly go down to 27th spot, 2005 brought him back up the rankings to 22nd place, 2006 - another good leap to rank at 16, and now he's up six places to claim his place in the top ten.
