Let's face it - on the whole baby boys' names follow tradition.
Baby namers can get pretty adventurous when it comes to choosing a girl's name...
But when it's time to consider those baby boys, parents and family tend to prefer something a little more familiar.
Why?
Well, maybe we like our men... to be men! We want our baby boy names to sound strong, dependable, wise - and without a hint of femininity!
If that's what we want, then it's best to put our trust in names we already know. Taking risks with a boy's name is not something many people do.

The "son and heir" tradition
Maybe some of us are used to our sons being named after a relative, keeping the name in the family for tradition's sake. My husband is Bulgarian, and I often get asked who our son is named after, to which my reply is... (rather shockingly)... "nobody" - as we decided to break with tradition and give him a name nobody in the family has. But we still gave him a very recognizable, familiar name!
